NSNP – NS Experience: Express Entry

The Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry stream selects highly skilled individuals who wish to live in Nova Scotia permanently. Applicants must have at least one year of experience working in Nova Scotia in an occupation at TEER category 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification.

*As of 12 noon ADT, April 17, 2024, the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program has a significant volume of applications for candidates in the Accommodation and Food Services sector awaiting a decision and must stop accepting applications in this sector while processing current inventory.

Requirements to qualify for EE

“You must meet the minimum criteria for at least one of the federal economic immigration programs subject to IRCC’s Express Entry system:

• Federal Skilled Worker Program
• Canadian Experience Class

– a valid Express Entry profile number

– You should receive a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program within the Express Entry system;

– submit your application within 30 calendar days of the date on which your Letter of Interest was issued;

Comprehensive Ranking score

if nominated, a candidate will receive an additional 600 CRS points in their Express Entry profile

Age

You are between 21 to 55 years old

Language

You need to prove language ability in English or French on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB).

You need CLB 7 for skilled work in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) category 0 and 1, and you need CLB 5 for NOC category 2 and 3 positions;

These language requirements are in line with Express Entry’s CEC program eligibility requirements.

Education Outside Canada

You have proof that you graduated
from high school or a post-secondary
institution in Canada or abroad.

Work Permit / Temporary Permits

*have at least 1 year of work experience in Nova Scotia;

You have a total of 1,560 hours of work
experience in Nova Scotia in the 3 years
before you submit your application.
This work experience can be one of the
following:
– Full time: 30 hours per week for
12 months at one or more jobs
– Part time: 15 hours per week for
24 months

• Your work experience does NOT include
any of the following:
– work done when you were selfemployed
– work done while you were a full-time
student
– co-op work terms
– unpaid internships
– volunteer work

• Your work experience meets the criteria
described in National Occupational
Classification (NOC) 2021 for categories
0, 1, 2, or 3.

• During your work experience, you did at
least 51% of the main duties described in
NOC 2021.

Job Offer

– The NSE:EE stream does not require the candidate to hold a valid job offer to be eligible

Your occupation must be in one of the following NOC TEER category’s 0, 1, 2, or 3

Intention to live in Province

You intend to live in Nova Scotia.

Funds

IRCC PROOF OF FUNDS

– You must have enough money to support yourself and your dependent family members when you settle in Canada.

– Note that a family member includes your spouse, common law partner and children under the age of 22, including their children.

– You can meet this requirement through one or a combination of any of the following:

> funds as demonstrated by the balance listed in bank statements, or statements of accounts showing other investments such as non-locked in, fixed term deposits, mutual funds, etc.

> annual earnings from ongoing employment
> a job offer

the minimum amount you need to immigrate to Canada as of May 2024. If you have more money, you should list the full amount in your profile or application.

– you’re applying under the Canadian Experience Class or

– you’re authorized to work in Canada and you have a valid job offer, even if you apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Federal Skilled Trades Program

Ineligibility

• You have been found to have committed
misrepresentation in relation to an
immigration application in the last five
years.

• Your qualifying work experience is
dependent on a federal post-graduation
work permit issued as a result of studies
outside Nova Scotia.

• You are currently living in a country in
which you are NOT legally allowed to live.

• You have received a nomination or
endorsement (NSNP or Atlantic Immigration
Program) within the last 12 months.

• You are in Canada as part of the Live-in
Caregiver Program

• You plan to work in a job that falls under
National Occupational Classification
(NOC) categories 4 or 5.

• You have applied to immigrate to Canada
on compassionate or humanitarian
grounds or to claim refugee status.

• You are related to a Canadian citizen or
permanent resident living in Canada in
one of these ways. You are their:
– a grandparent
– spouse
– common-law partner

• You have unresolved custody or child
support issues affecting one or more of
your dependents.

• You have received a removal order from
IRCC or the Canada Border Services
Agency (CBSA).

• You are currently studying at a Canadian
post-secondary institution.

• You received a scholarship or award
that requires you to return to your home
country upon graduation and you have
not yet done so.

• You have a federal post-graduation work
permit and work in a job that falls under
NOC categories 4 or 5.

• You have been offered a sales job for
which you will ONLY be paid commission.
Commission means you are paid a
percentage of the value of the item you
sell or the profit your employer makes
from that item.

Application Period

The NSNP streams are processed in approximately 3 months

Submission of Application

1. Create an Express Entry profile
2. Apply to NSNP and the Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry stream, through the link provided.
3. Your application is then assessed – a detailed evaluation of your application is conducted
4. You will either be nominated or refused

– If you are nominated, you or your representative will be emailed the nomination certificate. The certificate expires 6 months after the date of nomination. The province will also confirm your nomination through IRCC’s Express Entry online system.
You must accept this nomination using the Express Entry online
system within 30 days.

– If your application is refused, you will not be refused right away. Instead, you or your representative will be emailed the concerns or requesting further information. You have 10 business days to submit new information for reconsideration.
If your application is refused for the second time, you or your representative will be notified and this decision is final with no appeal process.

5. If you were nominated, and you accept the nomination provided by the Province, in their Express Entry online system, IRCC will send you an invitation to apply for a permanent resident visa. You have 60 days to upload your application and supporting documents using your IRCC account. You, your spouse or common-law partner, and your dependents must meet all of IRCC’s requirements.

6. IRCC issues permanent resident visas

7. You must inform NS when you become a permanent resident
Contact them within 30 days of your arrival in Nova Scotia, by providing the following documents:
• a copy of the Confirmation of Permanent Residence
• a copy of your passport
• your Nova Scotia contact information including
– your current address
– your phone number
– your email address
